I Create Original Art:
In this project we were supposed to take a picture of something that was either still life, a location, scenery or something from nature. Recently I went to the beach and had taken a picture of a pelican standing on a rock. I chose that picture to be the one I would draw. We were supposed to draw what we observed from that picture. Which, I did. But, I also changed it a little bit to make it my own art. I didn't mix the picture with own ideas to make something completely different. What I did was, I observed the picture how it was and just changed a few things to make it a little different. In the original picture, there were other rocks besides the one that the pelican is standing on. I left those out. Also the water went all the way behind the pelican. I decided to stop the water right behind the rock and leave the rest white, kind of as if it is the sky. These little tweaks can change the overall picture.
I Take Risks:
In this project the medium I chose was charcoal. I have never been good with charcoal and hadn't really used it before. I thought that using charcoal rather then pencil would allow me to create value better. And show the different shadows and values more. I knew doing this would put me more at risk of making mistakes and not having the most perfect picture. But, it could also make my artwork better. I think I did a pretty good job with the charcoal. Although, at some points I did struggle using it. I found it difficult to use and if you got charcoal where you didn't want it, it was hard to get rid of. In the end my project turned out close to how I would have wanted it. The only thing I would like to change, is being able to use the charcoal correctly to make the objects look 3D and make the different values blend together more.
