Original Piece:
I was inspired by this peice called Raqqu II. It inspired me because of the circles and bright colors. It is contemporary American art. It isn't complete circles, but there are half circles and it inspired me to make circles. It is made out of paint on canvas, so I made mine out of paint.

Extra Info:
This piece of art was made by Frank Phillip Stella. It was made in American in 1970. The art is made out if paint on a canvas board and Stella's goal was to incorperate geometry into art. Frank Stella named his artwork after circular plan cities. He made this art to look like a childlike pattern from far away, but up close to see the actualy complex art. Stella stripped his art work of story or statement and didn't make art that had personality. Stella has a series of art called Protractor Series. Which he began in 1967. It was never completed but the goal was to include 31 diffeent compisitions, each carried out in 3 different forms, interlaces, rainbows and fans.
I could not travel recently to see this peice but I have seen it before. And the piece is kind I 3D and really big. It's really pretty and looks simple, but really isn't.
I chose this peice because the entire time I was looking through images in my mind I wanted something with circles. I like the abstract art that also brings in geometry before. I was also drawn to the bright colors of this peice and the ability to make anything from it.
During the process I had to think a lot of things over and plan things out in order for my peice to look the way I wanted it to in the end. I had to keep changing the sizes of the circles and it took a while to find good tracing objects. This piece relates to the original pieces because both pieces have circles and vibrant colors. I achieved this by planning everything out and noticing things in the original piece that I wanted to carry over into my peice.
I take risks:
In this art project I had to take many risks. My first problem was drawing circles that where well, circular. That took a lot of light line drawing and erasing. I also had to mix acrillic paint many times to get the right colors. I really struggled with that part.
I was pretty familiar with using acrillic paints, but I wasn't very good with mixing them. It took a lot of tries to finally get the right color. I also had to work with the color wheel and lightening and and darkening colors. This was a little different for me because I had to place my colors very perticularly.
I Solve Problems:
When challenges occurred in this project I had to try new things to overcome them. I had many problems with drawing the circles and getting the correct sizes. I made tons of stencils in order to get the perfect ones. I also had issues with placing the circles evenly around the page. But, eventually I realized I could just have some hanging off the page. I also had trouble with getting the right colors. A lot of colors ended up darker or lighter then planned.
My work did actually kind of take an unexpected turn. I was planning on having all the circles be diffeent colors and shades, but I effectually ran out of colors. So I ended up repeating a lot of colors. All thought, in the end, it ended up looking good.
